چکیده

Ramp rates for incremental ramp rate exercise testing are not standardised. The ramp rate may influence the values obtained during exercise testing. We compared a slow ramp rate (SR) (3watts/minute) to a fast ramp rate (FR) (20 watts/minute) in 8 fit non elite cyclists using cycle ergometry. We measured peak power ,oxygen consumption (VO2) at anaerobic threshold (AT) and maximum aerobic capacity (VO2 max). A lower mean peak work (369 Watts vs 406 watts, P=0.004), higher mean AT (42.1 ml/min/kg vs 38.6 ml/min/kg, p=0.16) , lower mean VO2 max (51.7 ml/min/kg vs 54 ml/min/kg p=0.25) and higher ratio of AT to VO2 max (0.82 vs 0.71 p = 0.03) were obtained using the SR protocol. These results suggest that ramp protocols need to be considered when interpreting exercise tests clinically. We would suggest standardising ramp test protocols..

Very Early Lactate Threshold in Healthy Young Men as Related to Oxygen Uptake Kinetics

We assessed the correspondence between the V-slope ventilatory threshold (VT) and the lactate threshold (LT) by using a distinctive slow submaximal ramp protocol to ensure that sufficient data points exist around the threshold. Twenty healthy young men participated. A submaximal test based on a prior maximal test (25 watt/min, medium ramp) was performed with an individual slow-ramp protocol (6-...

Effect of Aerobic Exercise Training and Consumption of Nigella on the Working Memory of Inactive Middle-aged Women

Background and Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise and consumption of Nigella on the working memory performance of inactive middle-aged women. Material and Methods: The participants included 60 volunteer inactive women who were divided randomly into four groups (Aerobic Exercise Group=15, Nigella Group= 15, Combinative G...

Effect of progressive resistance exercise on β1 integrin and vinculin protein levels in slow-and fast-twitch skeletal muscles of male rats

Introduction: Skeletal muscle is a flexible and ever changing tissue and the role of costameric proteins in its response to different stimuli is not well defined. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of progressive resistance exercise on β1 integrin and vinculin proteins in fast and slow twitch skeletal muscles of male rats. Methods: Twelve male Wistar rats (weight: 298±5.2 gr...

Effect of Diabetes Induction and Exercisetraining on the Level of Ascorbic Acid and Muscle SVCT2 in Male Wistar Rats

Introduction: Sodium-dependent vitamin C transporter 2 (SVCT2) plays an important role in the transfer of ascorbic acid to slow-twitch fiber. The purpose of this study was investigating the effect of diabetes induction and exercise training on the level of ascorbic acid and muscle SVCT2 in rats. Methods: In this experimental study, 20 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups (n=...

Effect of Combined Exercise Training on Heart Rate Variability and Aerobic Capacity of Boys with Type 1 Diabetes

Background and Objective: Dysfunction in the autonomic nervous system can cause cardiovascular complications in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D). The present study aimed to investigate the effect of combined exercise training on heart rate variability (HRV-5min), aerobic capacity (VO2max), and glycemic index in boys with T1D. Materials and Methods: In this semi-experimental research, 24 ado...
